5 Selects: John T. Gast Highlights Tracks from his Label, 5 GATE TEMPLE
Thursday: Don’t miss a 5 GATE TEMPLE showcase at Plaza Nightclub featuring Petrols, Kelman Duran, and John T. Gast.
Founded in 2015, the label 5 GATE TEMPLE emerged from the murkier edges of the UK underground as a small, stubbornly independent imprint devoted to outre electronics, devotional drift and relentless club music that feels half-ruined but as solid as a tank. It’s headed by John T. Gast, whose own techno-adjacent tracks since the mid-’10s have thrived on the kind of looping weirdness that morphs and evolves when propelled by extreme repetition. He earned early attention for Excerpts, his 2015 release on Planet Mu.
Gast’s imprint 5 GATE TEMPLE delivers similarly sublime tracks and albums on a regular basis by kindred artists, each with a distinctive approach to electronics while being uniquely 5-Gate-ian. Last month, Gast released Infant, a wildly adventurous series of sizzling, noisy tracks that move with oblong rhythms and explode with sonic ideas.
Thursday, February 26th: 5 GATE TEMPLE will be presenting a label showcase featuring Petrols (live) + Kelman Duran (DJ) + John T. Gast (DJ) at the Plaza Nightclub. Venmo w/ your name in comment for advance tickets. Cash at door. Don’t miss it…

In anticipation of the show, Gast shared five tracks from 5 Gate Temple that he’s particularly hot on, along with some quick comments.
St. Agnis – breatheslow
“Possibly the loudest music in existence? St Agnis is really in a world of their own. Humbled to offer a home to such timely/appropriate/free energy <3 and the track is instructional.”
Xterea – Don’t Shoot the Messenger
“More family … Xterea’s latest offering: 10 min tidal battering.”
Sister Marion – Rina
“Journey into the inner world. Killer. Excited to hear what the future holds.”
Junior Loves – Grain (Return Version)
“Fire production and a singular approach. Oldest friend to boot. More blessings for ye.”
Gossiwor – Oceana pt2
“Many to pick from this release. But this one always seems to float to the top. Fat Freddie’s drop for the Brexit generation.”
