5 Selects with Lovefingers
Five “fingertracks” from Andrew Hogge aka Lovefingers.
It is without exaggeration to say that Andrew Hogge, aka Lovefingers, is one of our absolute favorite selectors. His pre-social media, daily unfolding mix site lovefingers.com was a crucial resource in our musical journeys. Much like Chee Shimizu’s Obscure Sound disc guide, Lovefingers showed us that there are no boundaries between genres. A classic Paul McCartney song can sit alongside an obscure tribal disco track. Anything can be “dance music” or a “deep listening” track; it’s up to the selector to make those connections for the listener.
If you’re not familiar with the Lovefingers mp3 blog, we highly recommend checking out Fingertracks Vol. 1, a 14-track snapshot of the classic leftfield and not-so-leftfield sounds that showed up daily on the influential site.
Andrew has kept busy since the site shuttered on New Years Day, 2010. His label ESP Institute has consistently released some of the most forward-thinking sounds around, including music by Powder, cos/mes, Lord of the Isles, Young Marco, and Hoshina Anniversary.
He also focuses on community work in Los Angeles and around the world. Total Luxury Spa recently collaborated with the Sun Ra Arkestra as the first installment of their new Garden Series initiative. The event featured a beautiful live stream and Q&A that helped raise money and awareness around the World Stage, a legendary venue in Leimert Park, in efforts to ensure the survival of the vital Los Angeles jazz institution.
We asked Andrew to share five selections prior to his dedicated listening session this Friday at Neuehouse. If you haven’t yet RSVP-ed, we highly encourage you to… Don’t miss!
