Aquáticos: Fabiano Do Nascimento meets E Ruscha V (Secret Circuit)
Brazilian bossa guitar meets lush electronic textures and modular synthesizers on Aquaticos, out now on Music from Memory!
Fabiano Do Nascimento and E Ruscha V aka Secret Circuit are two names that should be familiar around these parts. The Brazilian guitarist has released a number of beloved albums on LA imprints since moving to the city in 2001 including Now-Again and Leaving Records while also collaborating frequently with musicians like Sam Gendel and Mia Doi Todd. Eddie Ruscha aka Secret Circuit is quite the definition of a local LA legend with a decades-long relationship with dublab, over a dozen albums released under various projects, and collaborations with the likes of Suzanne Kraft, SFV Acid, and Scott Gilmore.
While the names are familiar, the surprising part comes in the meeting of these two artists. While Los Angeles is rich in music scenes, there’s not as often collaborations between worlds, with most communities of artists remaining somewhat insular in their sonic pursuits. Hailing from the live instrumental music and the electronic dance scenes respectively, Nascimento and Ruscha are an unexpected LA pairing, but the resulting album is a completely natural meeting of sounds. Nascimento’s organic 7- and 10-string nylon guitars and percussion meet Ruscha’s modular synthesizers and drum machines with such a fluid musical blending that the you immediately forget which melodies or rhythms are coming from where.
From Music from Memory: “The initial session that produced the opening track set the tone for the record, establishing a template of intuitive interplay and musical freedom. Each subsequent session built upon the last, gradually shaping ‘Aquáticos’ across nine tracks, all characterized by melodic richness, rhythmic depth, and an unshakable sense of spontaneity.
‘Aquáticos’ pulls the listener gently into a celebration of musical conversation — a radiant, immersive journey where Ruscha and Nascimento’s instruments breathe together, echoing the joy, curiosity, and playful spirit that define their collaboration.”
