7FO – Ryu no Nukegara

I first across Osaka-based producer 7FO through his collaborations with Jackson Bailey aka Tapes. Kindred spirits, Tapes & 7FO’s Live – 電氣爆発 (Electronic Aura Explosion) showcased a beautiful musical connection that stemmed from both artist’s experimental leanings and deep influence of dub and reggae. Released just a year prior to that record, Ryu no Nukegara is a set of warm, relaxed dub tracks that combine sparse electronic percussion, deep synth bass, and dub effects with a Okinawa/Sunda/Malay island feeling. The dub-processing and sparkling melodies draw trans-oceanic connections between the Caribbean and the Asian islands.
