Virginia Astley – Hope in a Darkened Heart

Like Robert Wyatt meets Steely Dan, Adrian Knight’s Vacation Man is a lovely retro-contemporary sophisti-pop album filled with warm synthesizers, smooth drum machine grooves, lush chord changes, and earworm melodies. Across ten tracks, Knight moves through late night slow groovers, experimental pop interludes, disco, and more while telling tales of the troubled “Vacation Man” who can’t seem to find peace no matter what relaxing sun-filled beach he’s at. “Sun touched my face. Gets you out of the water, and into the falling rain. I’m waiting to see… Just going to have to wait and see.”
