Bark Psychosis – Codename:Dustsucker
“Criminally overlooked” seems to be the overarching narrative with East London post-rock band Bark Pyschosis, and that seems to not only apply to the band itself, but also to their forgotten sophomore album. Released in 2004 ten years after the group disbanded, Codename:Dustsucker is a much more rhythm-centric album compared to Hex and features “found drumming” from ex-band member Mark Simnett along with contributions from Talk Talk drummer Lee Harris. Singer/bandleader Graham Sutton’s knack for unconventional arrangements continues to shine here and seems to have fully matured with perfectly executed extended intros, unexpectedly jazzy left turns, ambient interludes, and 303 acid breakdowns. “400 Winters,” in particular, is a gorgeous dream pop song with shimmering vibraphones from Peter Beresford (probably no relation to Steve) and breathy vocals from Anja Büchele. Many other highlights on this one so just put the whole thing on…
