Bobby Hutcherson – Linger Lane
Recorded just a few hours outside of Los Angeles in the small town of Idyllwild, Linger Lane captures the spirit of the California mountains with organic marimbas, echo guitar, spacey Rhodes, breezy vocals, and energetic arrangements. Hutcherson is joined by a stellar cast including Chuck Rainey on bass, Ernie Watts on horns, and Harvey Mason on drums. The tracks are all great but “NTU” is definitely the cut – a hypnotic groove likely dedicated to Gary Bartz’s NTU Troop featuring a beautiful guitar ostinato and dynamic, improvised marimba throughout the track.
