Chee Shimizu + miku-mari – Reconstructions
Recorded live at the iconic Japanese experimental venue Forestlimit in Hatagaya, Tokyo, Reconstructions is an improvised sound collage work from Obscure Sound writer / Organic Music founder Chee Shimizu and guitarist miku-mari. Chee collaged various percussion samples and personal field recording utilizing four CDJs, supplementing with live windchimes and Andean chajchas, while miku-mari coupled a guitar-controlled synthesizer, the ‘Sound Tube’ (a cylindrical sound device developed by Japanese Ambient composer Hiroshi Yoshimura) and more live elements such as Tibetan bells and pyramid crystals. As expected, the music has a deeply organic quality to it transporting listeners into the beautiful natural landscape of Japan through field recording, much like the environmental music of labels like Music Interior. The approach the two artists take, however, is something more akin to improvised jazz where new sounds and textures are created through an ongoing conversation built on years of trust and friendship.
