Pole – 3

The soundtrack to pre-millennium tension, Temperamental followed up Everything But The Girl’s landmark electronic breakthrough album Walking Wounded with a slightly more club-leaning sound featuring smooth four-to-the-floor house grooves, likely inspired by the success of Todd Terry’s remix of their track “Missing.” Opener “Five Fathoms” hits a sweet progressive NY house zone with Thorn’s vocals gliding casually over the euphoric groove (be sure to check the DDR-laced music video for a ’90s time warp). Like Walking Wounded, melancholic downtempo moments remain interspersed between the club jams, serving as a sort post-ecstasy come down. “Low Tide Of The Night” is especially great with its minimalistic, jazzy production that centers around a saxophone sample and dubbed out chord. “Who should I be tonight… Inside out in the daytime. Outside in in the night time.”
