H TO O – Cycle

Cycle is a collection of dreamlike ambient compositions from H TO O, a new collaboration from Japanese ambient artists H. Takahashi and Kohei Oyamada. “Earth” sounds like contemporary environmental music with it’s floating melodies, lush wavetable pads, and computer-generated dripping MIDI patterns. Ambient music can sometimes come across as a blur of unmoving sound, but all the tones played here are deeply satisfying and engaging, largely due to the propelling forward motion generated by the arpeggiators and sequencers. As the liner notes mention, the music is certainly beatless, but filled with rhythm. The gentle, syncopated, and constantly morphing bell tones on “Play” almost feel like an aural massage, triggering that perfect relaxing ASMR tingling feeling. Highly recommended for fans of Satoshi & Makoto, Lorenzo Senni, Susumu Yokota, Detroit Escalator Company.
