Holy Tongue meets Shackleton – The Tumbling Psychic Joy of Now
Top tier psychedelic bass music from two of the best in the game right now, The Tumbling Psychic Joy of Now sees early dubstep alumni and Skull Disco founder Shackleton reworking the post-punk dub instrumentals of percussionist Valentina Magaletti, multi-instrumentalist / producer Al Wootten (Deadboy), and bassist Susumu Mukai, aka Holy Tongue. Shackleton makes full use of Magaletti’s virtuosic, high-energy percussion playing, crafting swirling, ritualistic grooves that retain the group’s live feel, while also building functionality for clubland and the dancefloor. “The Fruit of the Fall” sounds like it uses an Otamatone, that strangely cute Japanese theremin-like instrument, which is very unexpected and totally in line with the group’s free spirited style. Magaletti: “I loved hearing what my beats and drumming could become with them. Sam is a total clubhead so it was very interesting to see how this thing transforms.”
