German minimalist Jan Jelinek’s first album is among the most mesmerizing of the so-called clicks + cuts era of experimental techno. Propelled by dub’s heavy bass lines, glitchy pops and crackles and wandering midrange washes of sound, Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records stands alongside Pole’s early work as the most magnetic of the bunch. An album in which every tone is sacred and slight sibilant textures offer bliss, tracks including “Them/Their” and “Tendancy” float like futuristic new age dub-plates. Jelinek’s ideas on this first record are a portent; he’s since released 15 other solo and collaborative albums, each of which is its own striking, singular journey. – Randall
