Eddie Chacon – Sundown

The followup to Lucien’s 1973 surprise breakthrough album Rashida, Mind’s Eye brings even more of the baritone singer’s Caribbean roots into his delicate and deeply romantic soul-jazz sound. Bossa guitar and various percussions meet the masterful arrangements and orchestration of Dave Grusin for a world-infused soul-jazz sound that completely stood out amongst Lucien’s peers. B2 “World Of Joy,” in particular, has a sort of dreamlike quality to it with echo’d and phased out Rhodes and synthesizers swirling alongside strings and a deep electric bassline. A1 “A Sunny Day” is another great tune that beams with upbeat percussion and Lucien’s signature vocalizations.
