Featured in Toshihito “Dubby” Maeyama’s Midnight in Tokyo Vol.2 compilation for Mule Musiq, Jugando was a short-lived Japanese latin fusion band formed by guitarist Masayuki Furuya. The group released just one album in 1980 with guest appearance from legendary tenor saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu and arrangement from Chikara Ueda. Sun-kissed vocals and vibrant percussion fill the tracks with a perfect island vibe that certainly pulls influences from latin music but also remains completely Japanese. Be sure to check the amazing brass arrangement and fusion reggae groove on A3 “Twisty.”
