“It’s been a long time since I last recorded an album – a break of some 40 years!” Following the recent archival efforts of Smiling C, Manchester-based guitarist Kevin McCormick returns with Passing Clouds, a collection of spacious, slow moving ambient guitar compositions inspired by sky watching. Finding a perfect home on Zurich-based Second Thought Records (sub-label of Ish), who released that great Slow Attack Ensemble album from 2020 and also Pablo Color, Passing Clouds sits in a beautiful solitary stillness. McCormick’s layers of guitar pass like brush strokes filling the vast, reverb-filled space with sounds that are often more textural than they are melodic, or even harmonic.
