Mikey Dread – Dread At the Control Dubwise

One of the greatest dub albums of all time, King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown is a masterclass in dub production from the genius mixing engineer who invented the genre and is arguably one of the most important figures for modern electronic music. Using the mixing desk as an instrument, Osbourne Ruddock aka King Tubby created a new dimension in sound by bringing the drum and bass to the forefront while casting ghostly echoes using delay, spring reverb, phaser, and filter manipulation. Singer Mikey Dread stated, “King Tubby truly understood sound in a scientific sense. He knew how the circuits worked and what the electrons did. That’s why he could do what he did.” This particular album features an all-star cast of musicians including Carlton Barrett on drums, Robbie Shakespeare and Aston Barrett on bass guitar, and Earl “Chinna” Smith on guitar led by the melodica master Agustus Pablo.
