Caetano Veloso

A highly sought after cult classic within Mexico’s “sonidero” street DJ culture, Dame Café is the debut album from Los Gavilanes De La Costa, a short-lived cumbia band from the northern coast of Colombia comprised of musician/composers José Castro, Eusebio Campillo, Policarpo Calle, Esmelín Zambrano, and others. Released on the influential Discos Fuentes label, the album features a mix of traditional “tropical music” rhythms like vallenato and cumbia, alongside more experimental beats such as paseaíto and pasaje. The music has an inviting rural quality to it with accordion melodies, percussion rhythms, and call-and-response vocals setting a lively street scene.
