Markus Stockhausen / Jasper Van’t Hof – Aqua Sansa
Featured in the “Psychedelic” section of Chee Shimizu’s Obscure Sound disc guide and reissued on Florence-based balearic label Archeo Recordings, Aqua Sansa is tripped-out electronic free jazz meets new age and experimental by the son of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Dutch keyboard master Jasper Van’t Hof. The two musicians deliver a wide range of timbres with Stockhausen’s various acoustic and electric trumpets weaving and soaring over Van’t Hof’s layers of synthesizer, piano, organ, computer, and kalimba (sansa). The comparison to ECM is pretty easy, and probably right, but the compositions featured here push the echo effects just a little further stepping into John Hassell fourth world zones.
