Pachyman – The Return of ….

Born in Puerto Rico, Pachyman aka Pachy Garcia was raised on the sounds of local reggae bands and soon became obsessed with emulating the vibrations of old Jamaican recordings, specifically those coming out of the legendary Channel One studios in Kingston. You can hear those influences clearly on The Return Of…, though there’s also bits of the Scientist, King Tubby, and Prince Jammy in here as well. The production sounds spot on for that warm ’70s studio sound with Pachyman recording many of these dub sessions live. Surprisingly, Pachy recorded the entire album in his basement with mostly second hand equipment. Just goes to show, it’s not what you got, but what you do with what you have…
