Pharoah Sanders – Karma
A definitive moment in the storied and still-ongoing career of the great Pharoah Sanders, Karma honored John Coltrane’s spiritual jazz legacy while also pushing the movement forward. The album consists largely of Sanders’ composition “The Creator Has A Master Plan,” a 32-minute-long epic that some consider a sequel to Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme.” Co-composed by yodeling jazz vocalist Leon Thomas, the track flows through all the gorgeous colors of jazz: ecstatic joy, noise and chaos, universal rhythms, etc. Be sure to also check out Leon Thomas’ rendition of “Creator…” on Spirits Known And Unknown on Flying Dutchman.
