Princ€ss – Princ€ss
Yet another favorite new release from Dublin’s wherethetimegoes, Princ€ss is the self-titled debut album from the “Irish supergroup” likely consisting of various artists from the label’s extended family (maybe Sean Being, Nashpaints & friends?). The project seems (to our ears) to be the spiritual continuation of 2022’s similarly mysteriously titled Dublin, which featured the Irish fiddle played with unconventional techniques through electronics. Princ€ss expands on Dublin’s exploration of contemporary Irish folk music with more traditional instrumentation including various bowed strings, harpsichord, flute, and organ, alongside bass, guitar and dreamy reverb-drenched vocals (check “Point of View”), recalling Ireland’s rich history of indie rock bands. The group deftly maneuvers through all these local influences with ease, and somehow manages to create a form of experimental pop music that sounds both familiar and enchantingly foreign. “In The Morning” even takes a step into pop territory with auto-tuned vocals and a highly addicting looping guitar riff. Highly recommended!
