A balearic ethno-jazz masterpiece, Kaunis Maa is the debut album by Italian guitarist, film composer, and philosophy student Riccardo Giagni. Giagni worked for years as a cultural curator (music, literature, television, radio) for a major media company before becoming an in-demand session musician and songwriter specializing in African, Italian, Occidental, and Latin music. Kaunis Maa, which means “beautiful land,” features Giagni’s instrument of choice, the classical guitar, alongside synthesizers, harmonizers, drum machines, fretless bass, and enchanting bits of ancient-sounding worldess vocals from Antonella Ruggiero. The sound is tropical, ethereal, organic, Latin, and also quite ambient though there are light percussive elements throughout. Recommended for fans of Eblen Macari, Joan Bibiloni, Gigi Masin, Music from Memory, etc.
