Bless the Mad

French sound artist Roméo Poirier’s second album for Jan Jelinek’s faitiche imprint, Living Room conjures a world of free-flowing sound through a delicate sampling and re-sampling process featuring self-recorded loops along with voices from a collection assembled by Poirier’s father. Various melodies, tones, and rhythms inhabit the sonic landscape seemingly with a life of their own, fluid in their timing, yet somehow working together within one ecosystem. At the center of this cinematic listen is “Muscle de Sable,” a beautiful composition that sits upon an endlessly looping snippet of noise while orchestral strings, post-rock guitar, and various electronic textures flow by. Jelinek continues the sampling loop with remix of of his own, which is then remixed once again by Poirier…
