Dices + AEM Rhythm Cascade – Thoughtstream

One of the many aliases of Richard H. Kirk, Sandoz tapped the Cabaret Voltaire founder’s Jamaican reggae / dub influences and mixed them with contemporary dance music along with various other world music styles for a truly innovative sound. 1998’s Chant to Jah is a twisted, electronic dub classic that stays a little closer to traditional dub formats, but also incorporates North African samples, melodies, and rhythms. Of course, the grit, hiss, and clank of industrial music is also present here with Kirk chopping live instrumentation and voices from various records, looping tape, adding electronic elements, and dubbing those parts out. You’ve heard these dub techniques before (echo, spring reverb, phaser), but never like this… King Dread !!!
