Slow Attack Ensemble – Music for Turntable, Guitars and Sampled Instruments
Music for Turntable, Guitars and Sampled Instruments is a collection of 9 experiments in realtime sampling and live instrumental improvisations. Paying homage to the process of Steve Reich, the music here can certainly be compared to Reich’s seminal Music For 18 Musicians though the sounds utilized are more modern. Ample use of digital delay and string harmonics create a sonic landscape that is hypnotizing and transportive while sustained drone instrumentation submerge you into foggy depths… Sampled vinyl crackle and tape hiss are also utilized throughout making the record feel like a living, breathing entity transporting you into its own world of musical illusion. If you enjoy this record be sure to also check out Slow Attack Ensemble’s last album Delay Music and also their side project You’ll Never Get To Heaven in collaboration with singer Alice Hansen.
