Recurring, Spacemen 3’s classic breakup album, is a record in two halves that essentially introduced the world to Pete Kember (Sonic Boom) and Jason Pierce’s next projects: Spectrum and Spiritualized. Each side of the album was written by Sonic Boom and Jason Pierce separately; both were backed by Will Carruthers, Mark Refoy and Jon Mattock. Despite this tension, Recurring has a surprisingly cohesive sound with dreamy melodies, cosmos expanding synthesizers, and stellar songwriting (critics would describe the album as “undated adaptation of ’60s folky acid-rock with elements of the Beatles, Stones and others”). “Hypnotized,” would become the group’s first entry in the UK Singles Charts.
