Jon Iverson meets Prins Emanuel, Golden Ivy & Inre Kretsen Grupp

A minimalistic masterpiece that sounds something like an avant-garde synth-punk Elvis, Suicide’s second album brings together cold drum machine beats and early synthesizers with rockabilly and classic rock’n’roll styles. While their debut album contains a sort of hostile minimalism, Alan Vega · Martin Rev presents a slightly more “conventional” sound with some songs, like “Be Bop Kid” and “Sweetheart,” even resembling traditional song structures (12-bar blues and ballad). Don’t mistake that for anything quite “normal” though because the duo push these forms into completely foreign territory with skittering electro-toms, whip-like snares, and hissing oscillators replacing the traditional “band.”
