Dub Syndicate – Tunes from the Missing Channel

Years before Adrian Sherwood launched his iconic On-U Sound label, the UK post-punk dub pioneer collaborated with his friend Michael Wadada on the first Suns of Arqa album. Revenge Of The Mozabites, combined celtic folk music with dub, and has since become a cult classic of early UK experimental dub. Wadada’s second album Wadada Magic was released three years later and is the first album to explore his vision of mixing “the cerebral and illusive cosmological vibrations of Raga, with the mother earth rhythms of Niyabinghi drumming.” A transcendental world fusion trip, the album touches on tribal dub, early electronics, proto-wave, and global beat with a bizarre mix of instruments: banjo, fiddle, mandolin, tabla, koto, harmonium. Wadada Magic also features guest features from the extended On-U family including Prince Far-I and Prince Hammer along with Creation Rebel bassist Lizard. Highly recommended for fans of Bill Laswell, African Head Charge, Jah Wobble’s Invaders of the Heart, Muslimgauze.
