A Walk Across The Rooftops, the debut album from The Blue Nile, laid the blueprints for what would come to be their signature sophisticated, polished, and highly personal take on Pop Music. Written in their hometown of Glasgow and recorded over the course of 5 months in Edinburgh on a new label deal from hi-fi company Linn Products, the band set themselves to extremely high standards and obsessed about every detail on the album. This obsession resulted in a record that upon every listen, you’re more than likely to find a sound or subtlety not previously noticed. Frontman and lead songwriter Paul Buchanan described the writing process taking place from his kitchen window-view as inspiration for the title track and album name. “I would sit in the kitchen, and it just so happened that kitchen overlooked the rooftops that pointed out to you.. maybe just part of the idea was that whatever you were going through, on the other side of the rooftops, on the other side of the world, people were probably going through similar things. Some far worse than you, some the same, some not so bad…”
