A La Ping Pong

Featured in the “Psychedelic” section of Chee Shimizu’s Obscure Sound disc guide, Hermanos is a Latin progressive classic from German-born Venezuelan multi-instrumentalist Vytas Brenner. The sound can be compared to Italian progressive bands of the ’70s with extended solos and cosmic synthesizers, but also has a distinctly South American flavor with heavy use of acoustic guitar and percussion instruments. In particular, “Gavilán” is a fantastic upbeat space rock track that’s equal parts grooving and psychedelic. “Agua Clara” is another nice moment with Brenner on vocals in more of an acid folk type of setting.
