Brian Eno in His Own Words: Don’t Get a Job, Be Alert, Embrace Chance
Join us at ISC NYC for a Brian Eno Dedicated Listening Session today.
If history has taught us anything, it’s that when Brian Eno starts talking about art, creativity, productivity, writer’s block — or anything worthy of thoughtful consideration — we should listen. History has also taught us that when Eno releases a new project, it too will warrant deep exploration and consideration. Over the years, the artist, who is 75, has given countless interviews that offer irrefutable evidence of his wisdom, and said wisdom arrives with the kind of eloquence that eludes most sound-focused artists, who are better at making music than discussing it.
The following bits of Eno advice, thoughts and recollections offer a seminar in how to be a creative person. Those in NYC can enjoy some of the fruits of Eno’s labors on Monday, March 18, when our Dedicated Listening Session will focus on eight Eno albums. Details below. For now, prepared to get schooled. Some tips from Eno.
1. Don’t get a job.
2. Surrender to art and lose yourself.
3. Pay attention to your surroundings.
4. Be alert for the “strange little thing that has happened that has never happened before.”
5. “You’re alive when you’re not sure what’s going on.”
