25 Years of Future Roots Radio: Our Favorite Shows on dublab

Last weekend, our friends at dublab celebrated their monumental 25-year anniversary with a massive community-focused event at Zebulon featuring 25+ DJ’s and live performances. If you missed it, the celebration continues this weekend on October 5th with Q2, the “ultimate anny after-party,” with a special b2b format featuring heavy-hitters DJ Ty b2b John Tejada, Sevyn b2b Terrell Brooke, Danny Goliger b2b Star Eyes, DJ Kerry b2b Maddy Maia, Adam O b2b Gay Felony. Tickets are available here via Resident Advisor.
One of the early pioneers of online radio, dublab has been operating since 1999 (wow!) and continues to be a beacon of light in the scene supporting the local and global music community through daily programming, podcasts, live events, concerts, and special projects. Recently, dublab has been programming a series of ambient DJ sets and performances at Los Angeles International Airport aimed to calm stressed travelers and showcase local music (inspired by Brian Eno’s Music for Airports). The series has featured Ana Roxanne & DJ Python’s Natural Wonder Beauty, local ambient label Motion Ward, and guitarist Dustin Wong (amongst others). Of course, dublab has also been our partner in our ongoing Sound & Vision community marketplace pop-up at ROW DTLA.
As a listener-funded non-profit radio station, dublab is one of the great independent cultural institutions in Los Angeles, using radio to foster a vibrant underground music scene that has expanded to affiliate stations in Japan, Spain, Germany and Brazil. We can’t imagine what Los Angeles would be like without them so if you have the means, please consider donating or becoming a member to support the station: https://www.dublab.com/support/donations
In celebration of 25 years of dublab, below we’ve highlighted a selection of some of our favorite shows:

Tipping Point w/ Peak Oil
Peak Oil’s Brian Foote and Brion Brionson share “a monthly journey through the record collections, leaving no good genre unturned, enjoy two hours of esoterica, conversation and guests.” We’ve loved the recent guests including Bristol-based post-bass music band Jabu, ML Buch, and Niecy Blues.

En Plein Air w/ Matt McDermott
A diaspora of musical discoveries, sometimes plaintive, often odd and usually shuffling their way to the outskirts of the dancefloor. Frequently friends drop in to tell us what they’ve seen and more importantly, heard.

ESP Institute w/ Lovefingers
Behind every great label there is a strong curatorial hand, an individual or group whose singular or collective vision helps guide their labor of love onwards with memorable and compelling results. Andrew Hogge aka Lovefingers has done just this with the ESP Institute, a label whose impressive output from an international cast of friends and like-minded individuals transcends simple categorization but feels perfectly at home.

The Basement w/ DJ Kerry
The Basement LA show features music from around the world that may give you a little shoulder shake or head nod, but mostly a groove. It’s an intimate experience of beloved music from deep diggers, opened up for the enjoyment of any listener from any background. This show moves in all directions from disco to house to reggae and maybe even some techno! Join us every last Friday of the month for groovy tunes to get your weekend started!
