Alice Coltrane: The Carnegie Hall Concert (Listening Session)
Thursday, March 21st we’ll be hosting an exclusive first listening session of “Alice Coltrane: The Carnegie Hall Concert”, a previously unreleased recording from Impulse! Records. Join us 1pm and 5pm at Sound & Vision dublab x In Sheep’s Clothing @ ROW DTLA.
Held four years after her husband John Coltrane’s untimely passing, the 1971 concert marks a pivotal moment in both Coltrane’s career and her spiritual journey: she had just released her fourth solo album, Journey in Satchidananda, and had deepened her spiritual quest over a five-week trip to India. Backed by an all-star group of musicians including Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Jimmy Garrison, and Cecil McBee, Coltrane delivered a captivating set featuring “Journey in Satchidananda”, “Shiva-Loka” and versions of John Coltrane’s “Africa,” and “Leo.””
