One of our favorite labels Smiling C joins us in-store to celebrate their latest releases from The Bernhardts and Careless Hands.
For the past few years, the Santa Cruz-based archival project Smiling C has been sharing the stories and songs of many forgotten artists. Working directly with the musicians, the Smiling C crew has been keying in on a number of lost and overlooked innovators from all across the globe.
Thursday, December 9th founder Henry Jones joins us to celebrate Smiling C’s latest reissues from Manchester trio The Bernhardts and Liverpool’s Careless Hands. Vinyl will be available in-store exclusively from the label.
The Bernhardts: “Together with producer Mike Howlett, they polished a handful of their songs in various studios around Manchester. This EP compilation contains released and unreleased songs from those sessions; a sampler of the different sides of The Bernhardts. Each song, intricately woven, paints the picture of the sophisticated celestial moods the group was trying to capture.”
Careless Hands: “The name we used for the band came from a song recorded in 1949 by a singer called Mel Torme. There’s a line in that song that goes, “Careless Hands don’t care when dreams slip through.” That seemed appropriate since dreams were part of the territory we were exploring.”
