Surround: Hiroshi Yoshimura Listening Party
Join us for another listening party at Sound & Vision dublab x In Sheep’s Clothing @ ROW DTLA this time featuring a defining work by the pioneering environmental music composer Hiroshi Yoshimura.
Originally released as an album in January 1986, Surround was recorded by Yoshimura as a commission from home builder Misawa Homes and their Institute of Research and Development as part of its Soundscape series, intended to function as an “amenity” designed to enhance the company’s newly built living spaces. Out of print for decades, this reissue marks the first time it will be available outside of Japan. Produced in full cooperation with Hiroshi Yoshimura’s estate, this edition includes Yoshimura’s original notes in Japanese and English, new liner notes by original album producer Hiroyoshi Shiokawa, and meticulous remastering by Grammy-nominated engineer John Baldwin. Reissue design and layouts were lovingly handled by Ella Gold.
