Point Winona Sound Library: West Coast Underground
This Friday, Elbow Grease and DISCOS XXX release a 20-track collaborative compilation detailing Los Angeles’ vibrant local undeground.
The Los Angeles underground has opened its arms to many strains of dance music over the years. From drum & bass and dubstep to trance and happy hardcore and beyond, the abundance of warehouse spaces in Los Angeles have allowed for a multitude of dance music communities to develop and find their place in this sprawling metropolis.
However, if there’s one dance genre that Los Angeles has consistently and undeniably claimed, it would be house music. The beating pulse of Los Angeles, house has its roots in the Black and queer scene (clubs like Jewel’s Catch One), veterans like Doc Martin and Marques Wyatt, and continues to develop with the next generation of DJ’s and producers like Zack Fox, Bae Bae, and Black House Radio.
Point Winona Sound Library Vol. 1 is a new compilation featuring luminaries from the house music scene including Stacy Christine (longtime resident of Bears in Space), Underground Resistance’s DJ Dex/Nomadico, Maddy Maia (Ninja Tune), and Tottie (Resident Advisor) alongside executive producers/curators Tavish DJ and Dave Aju. Recorded under one unified studio roof in various collaborative formations at the mighty Los Feliz hilltop palace Point Winona, the compilation is a lovingly-crafted sonic statement ranging from Detroit-meets-Cali house to vocal-driven tech bangers from a community of artists that have been the cornerstones of late-night dancefloors across Los Angeles for the past decade, and more.
The compilation is out this Friday, and the crew will be celebrating with a massive “early until late” party. Tickets are available now via Resident Advisor.
