Record Bizzy: An Industry-Forward Listening Series at Darling by Sean Brock
Join us February 17 for the second edition of Record Bizzy at Darling! NYC-based ATO Records will present an exclusive first listening session for Altın Gün’s new album.
Last Tuesday, we launched a new ongoing series in partnership with Sean Brock, a James Beard Award-winning chef and record collector from Nashville. Record Bizzy, happening twice a month at Brock’s new hi-fi lounge / restaurant Darling in West Hollywood, is an industry-forward listening series showcasing our favorite labels in Los Angeles and beyond. Each night will feature a different label in our extended network and include dedicated listening sessions of albums from the label’s catalog including classic titles, new releases, and upcoming music.
The first edition launched with one of our favorite archival imprints Numero Group, who specialize in “the alternative history of popular music.” The Chicago-born label has been one of the most consistently integral archival labels of the past two decades. 24-Carat Black, Antena, Laraaji, Gary Davenport, Rupa, Pastor T.L. Barrett, Wee, Ned Doheny, Cheryl Glasgow; the list of essential archival projects goes on and on. During the session, label founder Ken Shipley presented his beautiful listening compilation Reach, which included smooth and ethereal favorites from Masumi Hara, Calvin Keys, Batang Frisco, and A.R.T. Wilson.
MAXV’s custom-built Ville sound system, vintage Tannoy, Accuphase amplifier, and Japanese cartridges along with the gorgeous hi-fi lounge space brought the music to life to a packed house. The session brought us back to the dedicated listening events we used to host at our own bar in the Arts District where cocktails and a delicately crafted ambience set the stage for the main attraction: vinyl, analog sound, and organic music discovery.

For the next edition of Record Bizzy on February 17th, we’ll be joined by New York City based label ATO Records, who will be highlighting their upcoming album from Dutch-Turkish psychedelic rock band Altın Gün alongside albums from LA dub reggae hero Pachyman, and others!
RSVP is available now through dice.fm. Don’t miss it!
