Save the Dates: In Sheep’s Clothing’s Monthly World of Sound show on dublab
Broadcast on the first Thursday of each month and archived on Mixcloud, the World of Sound puts our curatorial approach on the air.
Readers not in Southern California who have ever wondered what an In Sheep’s Clothing set actually feels like don’t have to imagine it. The monthly In Sheep’s Clothing radio show World of Sound airs on dublab on the first Thursday of every month from 4-6 p.m. pst, translating our listening philosophy — ISC-core? — into radio. It’s a reminder that attention is a pleasure not a chore, and that records sound different when someone takes the time to place them carefully.
Pheel devoted a recent World of Sound set, above, to cumbia.
Each episode runs two hours and unfolds as a single, continuous listen, guided by a rotating cast of In Sheep’s Clothing selectors that includes passionfruit, Jonny Mons, Radha, Pheel, Bryan Ling, av_moves, Cate Kennan and Randall Roberts. Archival brilliance brushes up against deep new releases. Overlooked records shimmer again.
Kennan’s exquisite set from April, above, features Atmo, Nico Georis, Delphine Dora, Thurston Moore & Don Fleming, Yara Asmar and Fellini — a delicate constellation of sound that feels like tapestry of texture and harmony. Pheel’s wildly infectious cumbia set will transform your living room into a sun-soaked dance floor. Bryan Ling’s genre-jumping two-hours blends trip hop, folk and electronics, less like switching lanes than slipping through hidden passageways between musical worlds.
Radha’s set opens with Bitchin’ Bajas and closes with Sensorama.
Broadcast live, the show revels in dublab’s long-standing approach to radio as a communal act, one that accepts openness and risk. Episodes are archived on Mixcloud for later listening. Live or on demand, the intent remains the same: sustained attention, taken whole.
Bryan Ling’s set of lush melodicism.
