Tokyo Melody: A film about Ryuichi Sakamoto (1985)

A rare look into the complex mind and artistry of composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Here’s some more Yellow Magic Orchestra adjacent content… Tokyo Melody is a documentary by French photographer Elizabeth Lennard about YMO member and genius composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, filmed during the recording sessions for his 1984 album Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia.
“I’m working on things that will only be understood by the grand-children of the 20th century.”
The film takes us deep into Sakamoto’s process and includes a beautiful duet from Sakamoto and his then wife Akiko Yano along with an incredible scene where he demonstrates the use of the Fairlight CMI synthesizer.
