ZZK Records celebrates 18 Years of Latin American Underground Music
Join us on Thursday, March 19th for a Record Bizzy listening party featuring Latin American underground music from ZZK Records!
Last Halloween, we attended an event in the warehouse district of DTLA titled CUMBIATECA, which featured luminaries from the global digi-cumbia scene including Amantes del Futuro, Orihuela MSS, Mediopicky, and others. Organized by ZZK Records, the late-night party was pure cumbia magic with digital latin rhythms, glowing visuals, and vinyl available for sale.
Since then, ZZK Records, which was born out of the Zizek Club nights in Buenos Aires, has continued their mission of championing underground Latin American music celebrating their 18th year of operation with new releases, artist showcases, and a new season of their cinematic web-series La Selva, a global space for music & conversation, spanning roots and the future sounds of the world, featuring live performances, interviews, & documentaries.
The label’s latest release comes from Nuevos Ríos, a powerful fusion of Afro-Colombian Pacific rhythms and forward-thinking electronic sound, bringing marimba, percussion and ancestral voices into conversation with bass, keys and modern production. A global collaboration bringing unmistakable voice of Nidia Góngora and Latin Grammy nominees Canalón de Timbiquí and Tolouse-based trio Reco Reco, the project is a gorgeous blend of sounds rooted in folkloric traditional and contemporary Latin American electronic.
As a part of their 18 year celebration, ZZK Records will be joining In Sheep’s Clothing for our next Record Bizzy listening party at Sean Brock’s beautiful new hi-fi lounge Darling in West Hollywood. Happening at a new time on Thursday, March 19th, the event will featuring album playbacks of classics, favorites, and upcoming releases from the label exploring cumbia, reggaeton, gaita, guajira, and more! Vinyl and merch will be available for sale + full dinner menu until 10pm.
Don’t miss it… RSVP available now via dice.fm!
