Jon Hassell – Dream Theory in Malaya

Originally released on CD only in 1994, Love Me is the final Poison Girl Friend album before the cult favorite Japanese artist took a decade long break from releasing music. Arguably her most personal release, Love Me was produced entirely by Noriko herself and steps away from the darker, Lolita-esque pop of Shyness and returns to the dreamy, UK club music inspired sound of her breakthrough record Melting Moment. One of our favorites tracks in her entire catalog, A2 “Love Is…” masterfully brings together a sort of Kankyō Ongaku environmental ambient calm with Noriko’s sweet, melancholic dream pop songwriting. Elsewhere on the record, Noriko’s French “chanteuse” influences shine, especially on her downtempo cover of French singer Michel Polnareff’s “Love Me, Please Love Me.”
