Lifted – 1

The debut album by Lifted, an ever-shifting music ensemble anchored by Andrew Field-Pickering (Max D) and Matt Papich, is not an easily definable sound. With a wide net of reference points from Vladislav Delay to ECM, the music is rooted more in a particular approach to studio recording and improvisation than any particular style. Upon first listen you can point to such genre flags as jazz, ambient, or club music, but these classifiers don’t actually coalesce in a way that makes the music any more discernible. Something lies hidden in the cracks that makes each repeated listen more engaging than the last… The cast of collaborators is about as top-notch as it gets with Italian ambient legend Gigi Masin contributing piano solos, Jordan GCZ (Juju & Jordash) synthesizers, and Motion Graphics, Dawit Eklund, and Jeremy Hyman witjh additional synthesis, drumset and percussion.
