Gi Gi – Lamella Pressed

After disappearing again for nearly a decade, Scott Walker returned in 1995 with Tilt, his most daring and divisive album to date. While Walker had always hinted at a propensity for the avant-garde throughout his career, especially on tracks like “The Electrician,” “Nite Flights,” and “Dealer,” Tilt firmly marked the golden-voiced baritone singer’s move away from pop music and into realms of pure sonic exploration and unfiltered artistic expression. Harsh industrial soundscapes, Foley sound effects, and lush string arrangements meet slithering basslines and doom-inducing pedal steel guitars to create a beautiful and truly menacing sound world that serves as the backdrop for Walker’s dark, spiritual and political storytelling. Horses, buffalo, rosaries, and rattling cowbells come into view through what Walker described as “national eroticism” with some tracks focused on historical figures like Queen Caroline, Nazi bureaucrat Adolf Eichmann, and the American missile Patriot.
