Futoshi Moriyama – Yūtai-ridatsu ± (Plus-minus)
Osaka-based electronic producer Futoshi Moriyama presents a collection of software-based experimental electronic compositions on legendary Japanese label EM Records. Originally released in 2015 as a cassette on Birdfriend, the album can be considered “home-recorded orchestral music” and dives into more complex arrangements, harmonies, and sonic territories than his earlier releases which focused on improvisational techniques on cheap samplers. Synthesized traditional instruments, strings, icy synthesizer tones, and electronic drums come together to form a futuristic yet somehow vaguely organic sound world that very much matches the gorgeous album cover featuring a floating cat in a mythical mountain landscape.
