Julien Dechery and DJ Sundae’s 2016 compilation Sky Girl left us with a number of addictive outcast folk songs, but none was more captivating than Nora Guthrie’s delicate orchestral psychedelic folk tune “Home Before Dark.” The story of this incredible lost gem continues… In conjunction with the 2025 7-inch repress, EM Records has released a pair of covers by beloved contemporary Japanese folk duo Eddie Marcon and TORSO, an instrumental duo from Tokyo. Eddie Marcon’s version stays true to the sweet melancholic mood of the original while updating the lyrics to Japanese, written in collaboration with musician/producer Shintaro Sakamoto, and stripping down the arrangement to a small band setup featuring clarinet solo. The flip side takes this “wistful winds” approach even further and reimagines the song for cello and flute.
