Akira Inoue – Imaginary Arboretum
Moving further away from his early city pop classics (Prophetic Dream and Seaside Lovers’ Memories In Beach House), legendary Japanese keyboardist/composer Akira Inoue dives into avant-new-wave-pop and experimental electronics on his fifth album for Express Records. Imaginary Arboretum features Inoue’s vocals alongside traditional Japanese instruments including various percussion and koto along with fretless bass, drum machines, and synthesizers. The album artwork was created by the great Japanese designer/artist, Tadanori Yokoo, who made the classic cover for Hosono’s Cochin Moon. Included in the “Experimental” section of Chee Shimizu’s Obscure Sound disc guide…
