Ashra – Correlations

Known for their hypnotic kraut sound, Ashra’s third record Correlations pushes them further into rock territory. Having made the first two records as solo efforts, band leader and electronic music pioneer Manuel Göttsching enlisted Harald Grosskopf on drums, and Lutz Ulbrinch on guitar, to help flesh out his ideas and create a more cohesive “band-like” record. While certainly still in the Kosmische vein, the wistful guitar lead passages found here along with the added dimension of live drums bring Ashra at times into progressive rock realm. But make no mistake, Göttsching’s proto-synth sound along with his signature metronomic propulsion is in full effect here, keeping the songs moving right along for a highly enjoyable ride every time.
