Somehow still an underrated gem from the golden era of hip-hop despite its chart success and cult status, Kollage is the classic debut album from Philly-born rapper Antonia Reed aka Bahamadia, one of the great females emcees who emerged in the early ’90s as the protege of Gangstarr’s Guru and featured on tracks by The Roots, Jedi Mind Tricks, Erykah Badu, Morcheeba, and Towa Tei, among others. A bonafide hip-hop legend, Bahamadia is widely credited for being one of the original MC’s responsible for bringing Philly international acceptance in the hip-hop community. On her debut, dreamy Rhodes-filled samples and crunchy boom bap drum beats meet hypnotic swirling lyrical art with elite production from Guru, DJ Premier, Da Beatminerz, The Roots, Ski Beats and N.O. Joe. “Uknowhowwedu” is total class with Bahamadia’s buttery smooth flow, clever wordplay, and an extended shoutouts section that surely got the Philadelphia masses moving back in the day!
