Hiroshi Yoshimura – Soundscape 1: Surround

A Warp Records classic, The Campfire Headphase is a defining record in the Boards of Canada discography in that it saw the duo adding acoustic and electric instruments into the fold and seamlessly meshing them together with manipulated synths and electronic loops. The album achieves a lush, organic electronic sound that blurs the lines between genres and breaks new ground for the duo. Though beats are employed throughout, the album’s sound is still ambient at its core, with the collection of tunes and interludes equally as comfortable in the chill-out room of a club as they would be at home or around a campfire… With gauzed out saturated guitar effects against a cinematic backdrop of subtly manipulated electronics, the Scottish duo’s slow motion soundscape flutters with a blissed-out narcotic delirium creating an otherworldly hypnotic hazy dream.
