Brenda & The Big Dudes – Weekend Special
Brenda Fassie and “The Big Dudes” from South Africa quickly rose to fame with their 1983 hit debut “Weekend Special.” The single became the best selling record in South Africa with sales of over 200,000 copies and would later reach international audiences after being signed to Capitol Records and remixed by American soul producer Van Gibbs. The catchy bassline, warbly lead synthesizer, Linn drum beat, and, of course, Brenda’s expressive vocals are all just perfect and make for a dance floor classic that still gets plays from DJ’s today.
